Community Engagement Senior Manager

Job description

The community Engagement Senior Manager is accountable for establishing global Community Engagement (C.E.) programs and leading the cross fertilisation of community engagement best practice with affiliates and further establish the role within the businesses. The role will enable country localisation and execution of agreed C.E strategies. The role will act as a point of contact with external patient organisations and other similar bodies to help develop the presence and recognition of the company as a credible partner. 

  • Development and implementation of agreed global Community Engagement tactics aligned to TA strategies
  • Provide and communicate C.E. objectives with wider cross functional teams in the company and its partners
  • Lead C.E activities according to agreed global plans and enable implementation in affiliates
  • Develop strong external working relationships with members of the therapy community
  • Provide leadership and direction to support affiliates to establish C.E. priorities as part of local business plans
  • Facilitate cross fertilisation of best practices and knowledge base/insights to generate action plans in a timely fashion
  • Provide guidance – in collaboration with HCC, on matters pertaining to ethical standards and codes of conduct when working with patient organisations and HCOs from EU perspective
  • Assess learning needs for community engagement network and implement appropriate education
  • Establish community engagement and patient perspective/viewpoint within the strategic planning process
  • Participate in commercial and marketing team meetings to establish continuity across the HQ and affiliate teams for community engagement in driving/supporting the business
  • Monitor and plan expenditure on projects to ensure efficiencies and avoid over budget costs
  • Foster development of external insights and further implementation of resultant action plans
  • Develop and manage strategic plans for engagement with patient community leadership
  • Lead workstreams/team working pertaining to therapy area initiatives ie. EMENAR meetings
  • Provide updates, inputs and evidence for senior management decision making/planning
Skills and personality

Education/Learning Experience/Work Experience


  • Academic, commercial, medical or paramedical education or experience from similar positions
  • Demonstrated track record in similar global roles- minimum 3 years
  • Extensive experience of launch and pre-launch phases of product lifecycle inc. regulatory pathways


  • Immunology/rare disease experience in a medical-marketing, marketing, public affairs role for a minimum of 3 years highly desirable
  • Preferred good knowledge of the international rare disease and immunology community
  • Rare disease experience an advantage

  • Fluency in written and spoken English, strong ability to articulate messages and directions clearly and to present to small/large audiences in a professional manner
  • Computer skills (MS Office programs)
  • Strong customer and external stakeholder relationship management skills
  • High level communication skills, both oral and written communication


  • Can coach other members of the team in required skills/approaches
