Chief Commercial Officer - OHL

Job description

Under the direction of new ownership OHL Football Club has begun an exciting journey to develop this sporting iconic brand. It is important to establish a robust forward thinking commercial department that can organically grow the OHL commercial facility and its fan base, which are central to OHL achieving its core objectives. The appointment of a Chief Commercial Officer has been identified as fundamental to fulfill the commercial objectives. This important position heading up a newly created department with five staff members, reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer of OHL. He or she will be responsible for managing the club’s core commercial elements. The Chief Commercial Officer will be required to develop and deliver a comprehensive sales and hospitality program. This will include devising a ticketing capability that will maximise OHL revenue streams to secure the maximum income potential.


Main Responsibilities:


  • Deliver revenue growth through the development of key commercial strategies;
  • Identify opportunities to drive significant sponsorship revenue and brand development for OHL football club;
  • Create and promote appealing initiatives that increase the club’s engagement with existing and new OHL fans;
  • Devise and promote creative initiatives to attract new partners to OHL;
  • Deliver a ticketing capability that reaches out to fans and promotes a full stadium;
  • Deliver a hospitality program that stimulates variety, appeal and growth;
  • Engage with potential sponsors and deliver future sponsorship deals;
  • Retain excellent budget discipline and cost controls in line with financial reporting requirements;
  • Through analytical process determine new commercial streams;
  • Ensure an effective media communications strategy for OHL management, partners and fans;
  • To communicate and work effectively alongside senior management;
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy;
  • Produce regular reports for CEO and OHL Board.


Specific Duties:


  • Deliver the commercial strategy to maximise return;
  • Apply and maintain detailed tracking methods to produce analytical data reports on ticketing and all commercial functions;
  • Drive Fan engagement through innovative strategies for match day and non-match day program;
  • Deliver and maintain an effective and accurate budget and cost control process;
  • Prepare effective presentations on all key commercial aspects to the CEO and OHL Board;
  • Execute a Match Day commercial process whereby all club partners are looked after appropriately and confidently to ensure a first-class match day experience;
  • Alongside Club’s CEO and COO adopt ambassadorial duties by hosting existing and potential partners;
  • Liaise, negotiate and influence potential sponsors and business partners;
  • Lead and manage the commercial team to deliver the most effective outcomes;
  • Develop and manage a social media platform;
  • Recommend website updates and improvements.


Experience and skills:


  • Must be highly motivated and thrive in a result orientated environment;
  • Bring a mature man-management expertise with appropriate sales/fan engagement experience;
  • Possess an established track record of managing a commercial environment that delivers consistent results;
  • Dynamic achiever with proven capability to “hit the ground running” to leverage positive outcomes;
  • Exceptional influencing and negotiating skills with the credibility to promote positive relationships with Leuven companies at board level;
  • A natural leader with high levels of personal integrity;
  • Can demonstrate the successful completion of commercial sponsorship contracts;
  • Intellectually strong with a high level of strategic acumen;
  • Passionate attitude, positive outlook and an ability to work consistently well in a demanding result orientated environment;
  • Excellent financial abilities with proven management budget and cost efficiencies experience;
  • An understanding of football/sports business models and engagement process would be an advantage;
  • Energetic and persuasive with an engaging personality;
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent;
  • Conversant in English.
